Kawempe the northern division of Kampala city 3 years a go became a self declared republic after the waving of the presidential age limit in Uganda. The notorious youth of Kawempe cut off all traffic towards the new republic. They said if Uganda is for grabs, then they have taken their share since the president had also served himself with the no age limit. You needed a visa to cross to proceed to Kawempe republic.
In the recent Ugandan election, President Museveni obtained zero votes in a poling station in Kawempe Republic. Could it be that it was due to the illegality of conducting an election process in another republic before obtaining consent from the President of Kawempe republic Walakila Lutu.
The longest serving IGP in Uganda General Kayihura once was also the president of the self declared republic of North court in Makerere university which is also in Kawempe. The Alshabab of Somalia originated from Kawempe. What else do you know about Kawempe?
